>Okay, this is the third thing I’ve read today about the evils of sugar…and this one was sent directly to my personal email inbox!! Thank you very much, Universe. I will take this as a sign and start my sugar-free diet ASAP.
(To specify, I’ll give up “refined” sugar – natural sugars are still allowed. A girl’s gotta have the odd sweet treat!)
Incase anyone else may be interested in joining me on my No Sugar Added Adventure, here’s the email I received from “Hungry for Change” this afternoon with tips on how to be successful:
Two foods I cannot seem to get enough of these days are beets and garlic. They are both so delicious and chalk full of countless health benefits! So, it’s pretty handy that I stumbled across this recipe, which blends them up together into a delici
ous soup! Have this power-packed, nutrient-dense soup for dinner this week!
Beets are superfood-healthy and absolutely delicious to boot! They provide antioxidant,anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and detoxification support to the body. Beets contain countless important nutrients like iron, manganese, calcium, and most notably folic acid. They are known blood cleansers, helping the body to filter the blood by facilitating phase 2 detoxification of the liver. Specific components found in beets have actually been shown to lessen tumor cell growth via inhibition of pro-inflammatory enzymes. The specific tissue types protected from cancer growth are colon, lung, breast and prostate.
There are things you can do starting today to help reduce the effects of allergies on your youngsters. The key is understanding the process of the allergic response, and the mechanisms of slowing, stopping,
and reversing it. Read the second part of my Childhood Allergies article on naturalmommie.com for the four best ways to help your allergy-afflicted kiddies! NDs are extensively trained on this topic, so if you are still experiencing trouble, book an appointment for additional support.
When I was young, I knew one kid who had an allergy to cow’s milk. I knew another kid who had an allergy to bee stings. My mom had hayfever. And I think that’s it. Nuts and other common childhood allergies were not even on the radar. Nowadays, it
seems that a significant population of young people experiences what we know to be “allergies”, as well as a whole host of other immune-related symptoms. Read my latest blog post on naturalmommie.com for information on what is happening to young immune systems. And check back next week for what we can do to give
our kids some relief!

First, I will provide the reference for my statement in case anyone wanted to read up for more information. Second, I will expand on the statement and give some ideas and resources for meatless meals.
If you’re used to eating the traditional “meat and potatoes” every night for dinner, structuring a meal without a central animal protein may initially seem difficult. But with a little bit of info and very little extra effort (some may say it’s even easier to eat veggie!) you could be eating a vegetarian meal tonight! Any ill-effects of meat-eating can be mitigated if we simply moderate our use and incorporate veggie meals into our weekly repertoire. Read more…
On this sunny, chilly, late winter Monday morning, I thought nice warm tasty healthy hot beverages would be an appropriate blog topic!
As a new mom whose sleep has been severely compromised, I admit to enjoying a cup (or two) of coffee in the mornings. While I love a nice cup of hot coffee and all the ritual and romance of it, I found myself getting dehydrated through the day. As my husband will attest, it takes me hours to drink one cup of coffee. So a coffee I pour at 8am might not be finished until noon. Because I always had my coffee on the go, I was missing out on my daily water intake. This is not good – maintaining your hydration status is crucial! I was starting to notice the onset of dehydration symptoms – dry skin, dry lips, less frequent urination, constipation, light headedness. SO here is a trick I put into effect this weekend: while my coffee was brewing (quitting cold turkey won’t work for me! – more about that later), I boil the kettle and start the morning with a nice big mug of hot lemon water. Read on for my 3 main reasons for loving lemon water: Read more…
